Figure sketches
These are examples of additional figure studies. They are primarily charcoal and conte crayon on paper. Most of these studies are five-minute warm-up sketches on newsprint. They are, to me, the freshest expressions of the face and figure. I often like them more than work I produce after hours of effort.
Paintings
Working in color was a challenging new venture for me. I began by experimenting with oil on canvas from photos of family members. I also did color sketches from models in art classes—using oils, acrylics and pastels. My hope was eventually to become as comfortable with brush, paint and canvas as I have always been with pencil, charcoal and paper. That turned out to be an elusive goal, but the learning process has been a joy. These are some examples of additional works in color.
